Angling Festival

This event attracts around 150 competitors, each hoping to land the biggest fish, or the one that got away last year and break another British record.
The 2007 Alderney Annual Angling Festival cast off with 103 entrants from the UK, Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney. A total of 19 teams and 43 pairs took to the rocky shore line of Alderney to compete for the largest catch, within a number of categories.
This year’s event was held from 6th October for one week in fabulous weather and fine fishing conditions. The participating anglers were inundated with Black Bream by day and Eels and Bull Huss by night. Throughout the week Tick Lipped Mullet were regularly caught with all other species like Couches Sea Bream and Red Mullet amongst others that are normally expected at this time of year showing from time to time.
This year the Best Channel Island Angler cup was won by Danny Le Merrer (51) from Jersey who caught a Conger Eel weighing 34-0, a Thick Lipped Mullet 4-14-6 and a Garfish 01-01-12
The Best UK Angler shield was won by Tim Morley for his Couches Sea Bream weighing 1-13-0, Golden Grey Mullet 2-10-10 and Red Mullet 2-0-10 which also won the best fish of the festival and the trophy for the best percentage of the Alderney record at 88%.
