Half Marathon

5th September

Every year the Alderney Amateur Athletics Association organise the Alderney Half Marathon and 10km run which, next takes place on Saturday 6th September 2008.

Although just 3.5 miles long and 1.5 miles wide, Alderney has mapped out a scenic, but challenging course which takes the runners on a coastal tour of the island while enjoying breathtaking views of beaches, historic landmarks, numerous Victorian forts and beautiful beaches. Starting from the Alderney Tennis Club the runner’s first introduction to the race is Tourgis Hill, which is one of the steepest and longest hills on the island.

According to those who come back here year after year, “It’s a great way of seeing the island while trying to break a new record. The scenery is magnificent and everything is so open, but it’s a very difficult run and Tourgis Hill makes this definitely the toughest race in the Channel Islands”.

Last year's Half Marathon winner Jon Coote (41) from The Jersey Spartans sped across the finish line completing the course in only 1:24:56.

Organised by the Alderney Amateur Athletics Association, this challenge is open to all, but only the fit and healthy should take part.
