Miss Alderney Weekend

23rd to 25th May

This year's crowning of Miss Alderney 2008 and “Pop Stars of the 60’s” show will take place at the Island Hall, Friday 23 May, doors open at 20:30 and tickets cost £5.

A number of events will follow throughout the course of the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Miss Alderney 2007 - Three childhood friends have been chosen as this year’s Miss Alderney and her maids of honour. The three girls were in the same class at St Anne’s school and have spent the last 18 years as friends.  Marie-Claire Jean, 18, won the coveted prize of Miss Alderney 2007 on Saturday 26 May.  Her maids of honour Charlotte Neill, 18, and Kaylee Chadney, 18, will join Marie-Claire on her official duties. ‘We’ve known each other since we were babies,’ said Charlotte.

The Miss Alderney ceremony was preceded by a ‘Stars in their eyes’ show in the island hall. From a field of eight the judges picked Marie-Claire. ‘I’m really happy to be Miss Alderney. I used to watch the girls being crowned and hoped it would be me one day,’ she said. Marie-Claire’s family has good beauty contest pedigree with two of her aunts being Miss Alderneys in the past as well as her father and brother both being Mr Alderney.

Miss Alderney’s first appointment was to present the prizes at the little Miss and Master Alderney competition on Saturday 27 May. Prizes also went to the best fancy dress and the best toddler. Running, screaming and bouncing on the bouncy castle children were dragged in to the island hall to receive their prizes and quickly disappeared again.

Luke Ashton, 4, won best boys fancy dress with his Jack Sparrow outfit. Danni Woodnutt, 5 won the girls categories with her brilliant Oscar outfit and pose to go with it. Zara Dupont, 2, was the best toddler, dressed as she was a Marilyn Munroe although she didn’t enjoy having her picture taken as much as the Hollywood legend.

Like Miss Alderney and her maids of honour this year’s little Miss and Master Alderney are firm friends.  Joe Blackham, 8 and Poppy Bristow, 8 tomorrow are both in the same class, year three, at St Anne’s school.  They said they were looking forward to Alderney week and were happy to be crowned little Miss and Master Alderney.
