Thursday 17 – Saturday 19 April 2014

Visit Bibette Head, the site of some of the most interesting and best preserved German defences in Alderney and the wider Channel Islands at ‘Strongpoint Biberkopf’. With its intact trenches, tunnel, armoured machine gun cupola and casemated gun positions, this site offers a remarkable insight into the fortification of the island.

The daily tours (£5) will view the conservation work being carried out by volunteers and States Works staff, and the design and construction of the various bunkers will be explained. There’s a chance to participate (no charge) in the work on site, clearing out the heavily fortified concrete structures that formerly housed searchlights, anti-tank guns and machine guns. Find out what life was like for the occupying troops. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear.
