ALDERNEY VISITOR STATISTICS ON THE UP
Alderney, 25th October 2007: After a somewhat disappointing June & July, Alderney visitor statistics are on the increase. September’s figures show significant increases regarding commercial airline passengers, private aircraft and yachts visiting the island.
Commercial Airline Statistics
The commercial passenger figures for September 2007 were 8,099 having increased by 1,121 passengers (16%) when compared with September 2006 at 6,978.
Private Aviation Statistics
In September 2006, 95 private aircraft visited Alderney. This year the figure has doubled (increased by 100%) with 190 private aircraft visiting Alderney in September 2007. The number of crew has increased by 278 (116%) from 239 in September 2006 to 517 in September 2007.
Harbour Statistics
There was an increase of 68 (19%) yachts visiting the island in September 2007 compared with September 2006, with the total number of crew increasing by 280 (22%) from 1,270 in September 2006 to 1,550 in September 2007.
Manche Iles Express (Victor Hugo) made 4 sailings to Alderney in September 2007 compared with 15 in 2006. The number of passengers for September 2007 was 604 compared with 1,264 in 2006. The total number of passengers has decreased due to the 73% reduction in the number of sailings for September 2007. However, after a lengthy meeting between Alderney Tourism, the Alderney Harbourmaster and Manche Iles Express, it is hoped that the ferry timetable for 2008 will offer an increased number of sailings with better sailing dates and times.
Joanna Parmentier Marketing & Public Relations Manager for the States of Alderney said; “These increases are most likely due to a combination of, recent television coverage like the Coast and Nature of Britain programmes that featured Alderney recently and improved weather conditions.”
