Weddings
Alderney’s quaint island charms coupled with white sandy beaches and cosy hotels make it the perfect location for a wedding. Not only that, but it is close to the UK for all the family to attend and enjoy a well-earned break at the same time.
Couples can get married in the island within six days of arriving. They only need to be resident for three days prior to giving notice for a special licence, including one day which must elapse before the wedding ceremony. Marriages by special licence can take place at any time of the day in the Courthouse, a private house, the Anne French Room, the Braye Beach Hotel, the Harbour Lights Hotel, the Georgian House Hotel or the Old Barn Restaurant and Garden.
All of the hotels can offer a fully inclusive package for the couple’s special day, from the wedding ceremony through to the reception. Alternatively they can simply cater for just part of the day. Marriages by licence or certificate must take place in the island’s Courthouse between the hours of 8am and 3pm. Or for those looking for a religious service on the island, there is the opportunity to be married in an Alderney Church.
If you have always fancied your wedding to be a ‘little bit different’ and a ‘little bit special’, then why not hold a drinks reception on the Channel Islands’ only running train, which incidentally pulls two Northern Line underground carriages. What better way to enjoy your celebratory glass of champagne and canapés whilst taking a scenic ride along Alderney’s coast.
Alternatively, you could take your wedding party on a bus tour of the island with the final destination being your reception. A wonderful way to enjoy the spectacular and dramatic views.
For the horse lover, there is always the opportunity to have some wedding photographs with a difference, as you ride across one of Alderney’s white sandy beaches*.
Some couples have also been known to indulge in a boat trip around the island with their guests to see the two Gannet colonies, Puffins, Grey Atlantic Seals and many more sea birds, whilst enjoying an aperitif. Whatever your passion there is something for everyone!
*Please note: dogs and horses are not permitted on selected beaches from 1 June to 15 September.
