Homecoming Day is marked every year to commemorate the return to Alderney of the first group of islanders after WWII, following the mass evacuation of 1940. An important day in Alderney’s history, 2019 celebrates the 74th anniversary of Homecoming Day.
There will be some commemorative events held on and around this day – as events are confirmed they will be listed below.
HOMECOMING SERVICE on Sunday 15th December
A special ecumenical Thanksgiving Service for the Homecoming will be held at St Anne's Church at 10.30am. This will be followed by a brief prayer at the Evacuation plaque at the Courthouse.
HOMECOMING DAY CELEBRATED WITH OLD TIME MUSIC HALL: Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th December.
To celebrate this year’s Homecoming anniversary, the Alderney Theatre Group will be performing an Old Time Music Hall Show in the Island Hall. There will be two evening performances: Saturday 14th 8pm & Sunday 15th 8pm – tickets will be £5.
