Homecoming Day

Homecoming Day is marked every year to commemorate the return to Alderney of the first group of islanders after WWII, following the mass evacuation of 1940.  An important day in Alderney’s history, 2019 celebrates the 74th anniversary of Homecoming Day.

There will be some commemorative events held on and around this day – as events are confirmed they will be listed below.


AN ISLAND STORY screening & afternoon tea on Monday 9th December. 

The Theatre Group & the Braye Beach Hotel makes the event with a special afternoon cream tea and film screenings from 3.30pm. Tickets are £18 per person and to book please call Braye Beach 01481 824300.



HOMECOMING SERVICE on Sunday 15th December

A special ecumenical Thanksgiving Service for the Homecoming will be held at St Anne's Church at 10.30am. This will be followed by a brief prayer at the Evacuation plaque at the Courthouse. 



An Old Time Music Hall “THE GOOD OLD DAYS”, the Alderney Theatre Group’s show to celebrate the Homecoming during the weekend of 14th & 15th December.

The creators and producers of this amazing home-grown variety show - Ronnie Cairnduff and Lee Flewitt - are determined to bring plenty of sunshine and laughter with an impressive line-up of acts and performers.

“This will be an evening of sumptuous, plentitudinous ,prestiditatious, epictatious entertainment for your delectatiousness and delight”, promises Lee Flewitt who will be the Compère Extraordinaire on the night.  

The Extravaganza takes place Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th December at 8:00pm in the Island Hall (doors and bar open from 7:15pm) and tickets (just £5) are now on sale at Shirley’s in Victoria Street. And, as a special entertainment for the Homecomers and invited guests, the Alderney Theatre Group is staging a matinee performance on Sunday afternoon 15 December, immediately after the Vin d’Honneur. Admission to this show is free, but by invitation only.
