In October 2015, a band of 12 world call ringers – probably the best 12 ringers in the world – rang 21,216 changes in South Petherton, Somerset in 14 hours 26 mins. This was a record length of bellringing on 12 bells by a single band without breaks. The same band would now like to beat their own record and ring 25,000 changes which would take approx 16 hrs.
The 12 bells of St Anne have been chosen for the record attempt because of their ideal weight – not too heavy to ring for 16 hours and not too light that they race away. The modern installation means every bell responds appropriately to the effort expended by the ringer and they are exceptionally harmonious.
The bellringing will take place between 6.30am and 11pm.
