Alderney boasts the only train line in the Channel Islands.
Alderney’s train line was created to help the construction of the Victorian breakwater at Braye Harbour. The train delivered stone during this mammoth construction project and was officially opened by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
Today, visitors can ride on the Channel Islands’ only train and travel in old Tube carriages pulled by a diesel engine! The line takes you out to Mannez Lighthouse, where you can also visit the miniature railway. From train enthusiasts to families, this historic railway provides both interest and entertainment to Alderney’s visitors and locals.
You can find out more about the history of the train, its rolling stock and route on the Alderney Railway website.
