Alderney Churches Together (ACT) invites the community to remember Sapper George Onions, 259 Field Company (Royal Engineers).
He helped clear Alderney of over 30,000 land mines after WWII. On the 21st June 1945 he was unloading land mines when a box of detonators exploded, mortally wounding him.
He was the only British soldier to lose his life on the Island.
